Who is DJ Xris?

Am a christian DJ, with a passion for young people and God living. I am currently doing a diploma in pastoral leadership at Glad tidings. How was it like going through school ?

School was a hard place to be, the number of subjects i had to do, reading day and night to keep the pace, peer pressure, the suspensions & expulsions

What keeps you going in Life?

Two things keep me going. God and the future i see, the one i desire to have

What is Deejaying?

Much as deejaying is about the skill, performance and taste of music, to me i believe deejaying is worship. A DJ is a worship leader, that's why I choose gospel deejaying, a kind which brings glory to the Father

Describe your ordinary day at work as a DJ?

Reach my work place 1 hour before my show to to allow me settle down enough, do my set up and think through the playlist.

What particular skills do you bring to your place of work?

The good taste of music.

What's cool about your job ?

Ministering to my crowd through the lyrical content and the beats of music i play.

What's not cool about your job ?

Times when the crowd doesn't feel the music

What have been the most rewarding events in your career so far?

Morph camp 2014, which was not just monetary rewarding, but also pointed me to many other platforms and after Morph camp, i got a job at Family radio 105.3 where i worked till August 2015 then joined Power FM 104.1

What is your dream job?

Lawyer.

What aspects of your Education System have proven most important for your job as a DJ?

During my times in school, i aimed towards being a lawyer, the subjects I did at HSC all pointed me to being a lawyer & a Pastor. So i must say nothing in the education system pointed me to being a DJ, but the passion, skill and the aspect of survival for the fittest. (Never put all your eggs in one basket)

Which key people influenced your career direction ?

Paul Muwanguzi a.k.a Deejay Peruz.

As a student, how did you cope up with academic challenges and the pressure to excel?

I had to accept that i was at school on my own for myself, so excellence was a choice I had to work hard for.

What school activities (co-curricular) did you participate in and have proved beneficial along your career path that you can recommend to a student?

Music, Dance & Drama, I was always the one in charge of music in my school.

What trends are you seeing in Deejaying ?

The growing industry in terms of new DJs, unity and solidarity, aggression, skill and style of delivering sound

What advise would you give someone who seeks to pursue a career as a Deejay?

Practice. Listen to music. Forget about your favorite kind of music and figure out what people like. Practice and never stop practicing

Any Concluding remarks?

Two things, 1. Jeremiah 33:3 Call unto me and I will answer you, says the Lord.... 2. "Life has no remote control, get up and change it your self", aim higher, work, practice hard and never put all your eggs in one basket.
