Introduction
The Bachelor of Science was established in the College of Health Science at Makerere University in 1993, to prepare graduate nurses with competencies in Nursing, Midwifery, Primary Health Care and Research. The BScN. programme refers to Nursing Education which incorporate both General Nursing and Midwifery. The Program emphasises application of all the Nursing Process as a framework for all Nursing, Midwifery and Primary Health Care practice at all levels of all health care delivery
The main goal of the BScN Program is to improve the quality of Health Services for the community through Higher Education and Integrated Practice. This is on the basis that nursing Education and services play a vital role in the health care delivery in a country. The programme also aims at preparing a Nurse for meaningful functioning, as a team member within the health care system
Objectives
The Overall aim of the degree program is to educate and train nurses for the promotion of all aspects of health and elevation of standards of Nurse-Midwifery practicein the country
Specific Objectives
Graduate Nurses will be Equipped with the knowledge, attitudes and skills to:
- Provide both basic and advanced nursing care to the community
- Provide quality midwifery services
- Manage common clinical conditions
- Promote and practice Community-Based Primary Health Care (CBPHC)
- Provide Quality Leadershipp,Management and Administration within the Health Care Delivery System and the Community
- Initiate,Promote,Support and Conduct research in nursing and health related issues;
- Contribute to Health policy formulation
- Train nurses,other health workers and members of the Village Community
- Advocate for the rights of thier clients / patients and the Nursing Profession
