The Relevance (Why the course is being taught)

This course provide specialised training aimed at supporting the growing horticultural sector in Uganda and the immediate need to establish a core group of scientists in this area.
i) Imparting knowledge and developing the management competencies required by the people working or intending to work or desiring to grain expertise in the horticultural sector, with particular emphasis on developing management skills needed to establish an or support a profitable horticultural industry in a competitive global environment.
ii) Responding to problems and future needs in Horticulture and the society with education programmes that improve life and preserve environmental quality.

  • Nurseries: People in this profession grow plants from seedlings and make sure they make it through their entire lifecycle.
  • Research: In this field, you may study plant genetics or develop plants that have natural immunity to diseases and resist environmental damage.
  • Horticultural Therapy: You would use your knowledge of plants and design to help patients with cognitive and physical disabilities.
